It is a private sector insurance company which started operations from December, 1993. HGI is a wholly-owned Nepalese company with 40% subscription coming from the public and 60% from promoters of nce Holdings.

The Company writes all classes of General Insurance business including aviation and is today considered to be among the most professionally managed insurance company in the country. The company currently has branches in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Pokhara, Butwal, Birgunj and Biratnagar.

To help set up the company, HGI had acquired the services in Nepal of Peter Simmonds who was the General Manager from 1993 to 1998. Peter, a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London, has over 30 years of experience in
general insurance, more than half of which has been spent outside the United Kingdom, including six years in S.E. Asia up until late 1992.
